This week my mom helped with the blog post! In fact she pretty much wrote it! My mom has been writing devotionals for some years now, mostly for family and friends, but she has had some published in Guideposts. So we were discussing the concept of Thanks the other day and she remembered one of her devotionals was also on Thanks, so she sent it to me. In her posting (in blue) she was commenting on an article she had read,so we do not have the source to credit the author.
Thanksliving? At first glance, I thought it was a typo. Yet somehow my mind kept returning to the word in puzzlement. I soon realized whoever coined the word had it scripturally and politically correct. One day in November is inadequate for giving thanks; we should be living it out daily. We have so much for which to be grateful every day.
Living thanks is certainly not limited to Christians. But consider thanks living a positive attitude, a good habit, and a way to honor God. Look what God has to say about thanksliving.
All the verses are from the NIV translation. Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire. Hebrews 12:28
Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done. 1 Chronicles 16:8
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise His name. Psalm 111:4
Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. Psalm 95:2
Be joyful always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
The other concept we ended up discussing was that she (my mom) said she practiced the principle of THANKING God for what He was going to to in the future. And as Christians, we should be doing that also, not just thanking God for the past, but for the present and future time, because GOD is working ALL the time, not just when we ask Him.
Always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Eph 5: 20
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. John 14:3
So this wraps up the theme of Thanks, and the next theme I will tackle will be Advent.
