The poem I posted for this date is titled, "His Hands", and as you see in my note, this was an attempt to articulate what it meant for Christ to touch his own creations. Christ knew the importance of touch, the power it can have to transform lives. Christ came to be our example, and I believe that when he touched his own people, he was telling us that we should do the same.
Once more Jesus put his hands on the man's eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was
restored, and he saw everything clearly. Mark 8:25 .
There are 43 bible verses about those that Jesus healed and 26 about Jesus healing by touch. I know that we cannot heal like Christ, but there is something healing about touch. In fact clinical studies were done that show the benefits of touch: It is said that even a hug of 8 seconds can greatly reduce stress hormones and boost endorphin levels. Another study showed what lack of touch can do to the body; the immune system is weakened and overall health declines.
I am a hugger, I love to hug my family and friends and my patients. It saddens me that right now we cannot be hugging, especially my patients, so I am trying to find ways I can hug without touching. Here are a few suggestions...
Since we wear gloves and sanitize constantly at my job, I hold hands with my patients for just a few seconds before I begin their treatments. I have been praying with my patients also when they request it as some know I am a Christian, and we always hold hands when we pray. I have also been squeezing people on the shoulder if they are not comfortable with holding hands. I have also come up with some stickers to use as a form of a hug. The examples are below and I intend to try them out this next week.
I would love to hear how everyone else is doing with his issue Until next time.
